Kinesiologist

Karla was a competitive athlete for a large part of her life – 12 years as a competitive figure skater, and 4 years as a sprinter with the York University Varsity Track & Field team where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. She continued her studies at Sheridan College and holds a Bachelor of Health Science (Athletic Therapy). She is certified through the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association and registered with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario.

Before becoming an Athletic Therapist she worked as a strength coach running the off-ice training with the York Region Skating Academy athletes. After completing her post secondary education and becoming certified as an Athletic Therapist she had a short stint out east when she was the Assistant AT with Mount Allison University working with the Varsity football and Women’s soccer teams. Following that she got a position at the Hill Academy where she worked with the men’s and women’s lacrosse and hockey teams.

Additionally, she also is a member of the medical support staff with the Canadian Soccer Association; she is the Lead AT with the U15 Women’s National Team and support staff with U20 and U17 programs. During that time she worked for 5 years with the National Development Centre Ontario – the U18 women’s provincial soccer program.

Karla’s approach to treatment is to not just treat the symptoms but to determine the root of your dysfunction. Find the cause, treat the cause! She takes a whole body approach to treatment, as the human body works in a series of chains – everything is connected.

With her background as a competitive athlete, she understands that there is a balance between manual therapy and functional movement and tailoring to a patient’s specific needs and goals – whether it is increased fitness, improved performance or the return to everyday activities, she can help you.
