Alex Brewer has been a Certified Athletic Therapist for 13 years now. She graduated from Sheridan College with a Bachelor of Applied Health Sciences in Athletic Therapy (2011) and graduated from McMaster University with a Masters in Rehabilitation Sciences (2021). She is a First Responder and recipient of a lifesaving commendation from St. John Ambulance. Alex is a Certified Provider in the Shift Concussion Management Program specializing in concussion management, rehabilitation and baseline testing. She has worked with a variety of different patients ranging in age, athletic ability and activity – from dedicated athletes, weekend warriors, to factory workers.
Alex specializes in return to work, sport and play. She believes in creating functional exercise programs for each individual, so they can get back to doing what they love. She has worked with many different sports teams including but not limited to rugby, football, soccer, and hockey – at all different levels. She is currently the assistant Athletic Therapist at Georgian College and works with the varsity rugby, basketball and volleyball teams. She was the Head Athletic Therapist for the Stayner Siskins ‘Jr. C’ Hockey club for 5 years (2015). She was a medical volunteer at the Pan Am and Para Pan Am Games in 2015. She was an Assistant Athletic Therapist at the University of Guelph and worked with the Varsity Athletes on the field and in the clinic. During her schooling she worked with the University of Waterloo men’s rugby team and the women’s hockey team. She also worked with Industrial Athletes at The S.M.A.R.T Clinic at Honda Canada Manufacturing and has experience working in multidisciplinary clinics where she worked with orthopedic surgeons and gained experience with knee and hip replacements, fractured ankles, ACL repairs and meniscus repairs.
Alex uses different Athletic Therapy techniques such as rehabilitative exercise, myofascial release techniques, muscle energy techniques, soft tissue release, selective functional movement assessment (SFMA), cupping, IASTM tools and Neurokinetic Therapy (level 1). She specializes in treating acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries, on field emergency care, concussion management, return to sport protocols, prophylactic taping and orthopedic and custom bracing.
